Thinking Day 2012
Fermoy scout group celebrated 'Thinking day' in Saint Patrick’s church on Sunday 26th February. It was an opportunity for old and young alike to gather and be thankful for the many gifts and talents that make us what we are. Our spiritual director, Fr. Eugene Baker, opened this special mass with a brief synopsis of Baden Powell’s early life, which was followed by beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures and rovers taking a very active part in the celebration of mass.
Watching our youth members carry out their various readings and tasks it becomes very apparent how professional they are in the way they speak or act, and that we do have a lot for which to be thankful. The weekly meetings provide the training for public events such as Thinking Day which showcases the young members newly achieved skills.
After mass had ended there was an investiture of adult leaders and beavers who were officially welcomed to the sections. This brought proceedings to a close and we look forward to a similar occasion next year. A special word of thanks goes to everyone who supported us and especially Father Eugene Baker whose guidance made this a very special day.
Awards Night 2011
This was a very big night for Fermoy Scout Group and was supported by the top people in Scouting Ireland, the Chief Scout, the Mayor of Fermoy, commissioners and special guests, all of whom we thank most sincerely for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend. The stars of the night and those who shone the brightest were the young members of ScoutingFermoy. Scouts, Ventures and Rovers left their inhibitions and shyness at the door and delivered a very professional awards night ceremony, which included investitures, ICU certification, bronze Gaisce, the Chief Scout commendation award, and the ultimate achievement for any scout -- the Chief Scout Award itself. All of our youth members either presented with speeches or received with an understated confidence which supports the belief in Fermoy that scouting has a very positive influence on our youth.
