A Tribute to Ken
Last night leaders from Fermoy scout group left their neckerchief’s at home and met at a local debating establishment. It was a welcome opportunity to relax, share a joke and chat amongst ourselves for a bit about things outside of scouting. That said we had one important piece of business to conduct before the end of the night. Ken Barry known far and wide as a Fermoy scouter is enjoying 20 years as a volunteer leader with our group and the occasion was notably marked by a special presentation made by Dave Bartley on behalf of Fermoy Scout Group.
Group Training & Planning
Our group training & planning day was attended by all Scouters, Group Council and youth leaders. The morning was taken up with the familiarisation of the new youth programme and the afternoon was the review and finalisation of the changeover plan. It is a very exciting time to be part of Scouting Ireland and Fermoy Scout Group, especially when you see the enthusiasm of our youth members on the impending roll out of the new One Programme.
The group council are fully committed to the changeover plan and according to the Scout Method adults in all Sections will facilitate decision making as an alliance between young people and adults and as a progressive process where young people are supported and encouraged to express their views.
Our youth members will be encouraged to make their own decisions about more and more of what they do in Scouting. Throughout the Scout programme opportunities will be provided in all Sections for young people to take on the responsibility of leadership and this will be encouraged by Scouters.
Fellowship patrols
A meeting to formulate the setting up of fellowship patrols will take place in Fermoy Scout Den on Feb 17th at 8.00pm finishing at 9.30pm.
Scouting is a worldwide Movement helping young people to play their full part in the community. The Scout Movement aims to encourage their physical, mental and spiritual development so that these young people may take a constructive place in society. Relatively sober words covering adventurous activities, learning useful skills, experiencing leadership responsibilities, helping others and all in an atmosphere of fun and fellowship. Such a Movement depends on adults offering leadership, administrative support, technical advice and just helping in every possible way. The Fellowship Network is a body of men and women backing Scouting and the young people in it – Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts. Backing the Leaders too, who need and deserve support. The Fellowship Network offers a job of work within a family of friends supporting Scouting and enjoying doing so to the full. It offers FUN and SERVICE within Scouting.
