Fundraising Hockey Blitz 2012
Later this year most of the Fermoy Rovers and Ventures are going to Finland to take part in Roverway 2012. Roverway is a joint European WAGGGS and WOSM event for 16 – 22 year old Rover Scouts, ventures and Rangers from all over the world. It is a 9 day long programme event that includes two main parts: A four day adventure path in groups of 50 covering various parts of Finland. Each path is different and the themes range from cultural excursions to forest hikes. The second part is a camp and all path tribes come together for this camp. The camp has programme valleys and different activities. Even though the main event takes place in July, participation in the project runs throughout 2012.
Easter Egg Sunday Hike 2012
Starting early to make the most of the day, we left Fermoy at 10 a.m. and arrived at Galty Castle car park shortly after. We were looking forward to nice weather for the day according to the forecast, but once again, the Irish weather proved unpredictable as we felt rain drops the minute we stepped out of the car. We headed off on the track NNW, buzzed to be on another adventure. Soon, we had left the track and were on the open mountainside, ascending the valley of Glounreagh. We stopped to have a quick bite at the old farmstead and all agreed that it’d been too long since our last outing; just being out on the side of a mountain again was enough to make you want to stay here forever and forget about exams and study that lay waiting at home.
Rover Investiture 2011
Welcome to the new Rover scout section of our site!
We hope that over the coming years we will be able to bring you many articles from home and abroad about our activities and adventures. We made history for Fermoy Scout Group on the 16th of December, when 10 Rover scouts were invested into the first ever Rover section. We were honoured that the Chief Scout of Ireland Michael John Shinnick accepted our invitation to perform the investiture. The Chief was on an official visit to ScoutingFermoy as he was presenting the Chief Scout Award to Brian O’Mahony of Eagle Patrol. Our group leader James O’Donoghue spoke of his delight on opening the new section and wished the Rovers well on their many adventures, before assisting the Chief with the investiture. Fermoy Scout Group now has five sections operating ranging in age from six to twenty-five and we at ScoutingFermoy would like to add our voice to the many others who wish the new Rovers every success into the future.
